2 Talks on education

On September 28 2022, I spoke to a group of students who are becoming special education teachers about Cerebral Palsy, media representation of disability, and education for disabled students. We discussed some movies the students had already watched for the class and the meaning behind “Crip” in Crip Video Productions. We discussed “Drama Sighted” and “A Stroke Of Endurance”. The students told me what resonated with them in what they had watched. Some students shared how they had seen disabled people get underestimated by doctors and the larger society. Some didn’t know people with invisible disabilities could use the ADA. On October 6th 2022 I spoke to another group of students learning to be teachers for very young children. The discussion was about Crip Video Productions, Cerebral Palsy, and individualizing education accommodations and building accessibility into a course as a course is being designed from the beginning. We talked about disability representation in books and the fact that students will have disabled parents that the teacher will also have to accommodate.
