Spring 2026 Screenings and Stroke Awareness Month

On April 2 2026 I(Margot) did a screening for some students of “Drama Sighted” where we discussed the mental health affects of ableist bullying and how it traumatizes those who are the disabled targets of the bullying. One student liked how the visuals of the film looked on a computer screen. On April 20th 2026 I(Margot) did a screening for some students with intellectual disabilities of “Drama Sighted”, the students got the humor in the film immediately and said they wished they could act in films in the same way. On April 23 2026 I spoke to a group of students who are learning to be teachers in special education. We discussed the dangers of ableism like when one disabled activist was not able to use an accessible toilet and it damaged her bladder and another news story about a woman who used a ventilator who died due to the apartment management not allowing her to install a backup generator. One student asked why a disabled man in a grocery store didn’t seem too happy when she let him cut the cashier line, and I explained it is better to ask a disabled person first so the person does not feel pity or like they are “getting special treatment.” On April 29th 2026 I screened “A Stroke Of Endurance” for another small class and the students said the movie touched their hearts. One student gained a new understanding of why disclosing a disability can be personal and private. One of the instructors loved the empathy between Professor Ben and the students and how the script humanized professors and students, and how the students didn’t want the professor to die. Someone else thought Ava called her mother at the end because she realized things are finite and we have to tell those we love that we love them. Another instructor liked how Ava and Professor Ben explained their brains and neurologic burn out. One person found the faith elements of the film interesting. May is Stroke Awareness Month, and at Crip Video Productions, we are continuing our tradition of raising awareness and celebrating the resilience of the stroke survivor community! Stroke is a far more common disability than many realize, affecting people of all ages. We want to use this month to highlight some critical facts: Pediatric Stroke: Stroke in babies is a known cause of Cerebral Palsy (CP).Young Adult Risks: Strokes in younger people can be caused by complications from birth control, diabetes, or specific nutritional gaps due to genetic and autoimmune issues, such as Vitamin B deficiency anemia known as pernicious anemia. Authenticity is the heartbeat of our work. We are eternally grateful to the stroke survivor who sat down with us for a personal interview on the phone in 2016, to help us accurately portray Professor Ben’s character, his symptoms, and his stroke recovery process. Her insight, along with the incredible support from our fans like the folks at "The Great Now What" , Stromies, and The StrokeCast, and the rest of the survivor community like the person who inspired me to write the film in the first place, who have championed "A Stroke of Endurance" since day one, is what makes this film special. We hope our film continues to serve as a meaningful resource for survivors and their loved ones everywhere. 🎥 Watch "A Stroke of Endurance" for FREE here: https://cripvideoproductions.com/astrokeofendurance.php

World Stroke Day 2022

Today October 29th 2022 is World Stroke Day 2022. In appreciation of the stroke survivors who have inspired us such as one stroke survivor who allowed us to interview her personally to add to the authenticity of Professor Ben’s character, symptoms and recovery process, in our film  "A Stroke Of Endurance" and other survivors who supported our film “A Stroke Of Endurance” from the very beginning of its creation, and after like our wonderful new fans who are stroke survivors that let us into their worlds https://cripvideoproductions.blogspot.com/2019/01/a-stroke-of-endurance-featured-on.html Crip Video Productions would like to now be a part of World Stroke Day every year! We wrote a post for World Stroke Day 2018 here https://cripvideoproductions.blogspot.com/2019/01/screening-and-world-stroke-day-2018.html and for World Stroke Day 2019 here https://cripvideoproductions.blogspot.com/2019/10/world-stroke-day-2019.html Please read our previous posts linked for a poem by a cast member of "A Stroke Of Endurance" for World Stroke Day and, reminders and encouragement for Stroke Survivors!  This year we would also like you to be aware of a condition called spinal stroke which is a stroke to the spinal cord that can cause paralysis and is rare.

Stroke Awareness and small interviews with students

On April 7th I gave a private presentation/interview about “A Stroke Of Endurance” to a small group of college students online. One student came on the video call a tad early and said that the film was a great inspiration to her and immediately asked how I went about getting permission to film “A Stroke Of Endurance” in certain locations (called location scouting by professionals) and if it was difficult or nerve racking to do so. I responded that the locations shown in “A Stroke Of Endurance” were some of the easiest to work with. Once the rest of the students arrived many of them asked about the true events that roughly inspired “A Stroke Of Endurance” and one asked how I researched and observed strokes and whether I had gotten input from real Stroke Survivors themselves which the answer to is yes I did. We talked about mental health, ableism and the “Super Crip” stereotype. I was asked the meaning of “Crip”. I was asked about IEPs and how the public school system, and college education system are different. Many students asked why Ava had such emotional reactions in the film. We discussed disclosure and privacy as it relates to disability accommodations. Of course some of the usual questions about preferred disability terminology was brought up. I was asked what it was like to act and direct at the same time. Someone asked if I had ever witnessed anybody have a stroke in the middle of the stroke itself as it happened. At the end I was asked what my favorite movie or piece of media was. The interview had a great flow to it. On May 12 2021 I spoke to some developmental psychology students about disability. We talked about Cerebral Palsy, mental health, and work experiences with a disability. One student asked if it was annoying to be called “Inspiring” so I explained the term “Inspiration Porn”. We talked about how some disabled people and other minorities who are often hired simply for a specific identity rather than a specific skill or are over or under estimated in their abilities. We talked about bullying and it’s effect on mental health in the disability community. We talked about appropriate disability terms. One student talked about someone with CP that they knew personally who was in an institution. One student asked if I felt obligated to educate on disability all the time. I explained that I only educated on disability when I felt like it. One person asked if schools and colleges should teach disability studies and about the history of other minorities in the USA. I spoke to many classes in the past few weeks and got feedback from those students. We met disabled students in the UK. The collaboration project is also coming along. Crip Video Productions was featured on Julesworks yet again. We hope to be on Julesworks more in the future. May is Stroke Awareness month. Please share “A Stroke Of Endurance” with a stroke survivor this month!

Cerebral Palsy Awareness Day 2021

March is Cerebral Palsy Awareness month. Today March 25 2021 is Cerebral Palsy Awareness Day. Cerebral Palsy Awareness Day is apparently entirely different from World CP Day in October. March is also Brain Injury awareness month and Cerebral Palsy is a brain injury. Michael Lettman who writes the blog “Living With Autism” was kind enough to let me write a Cerebral Palsy Awareness post for the blog which you can view by clicking this link. https://masterml9502.wixsite.com/livingwithautism/post/cerebral-palsy-awareness-guest-post-by-margot  Crip Video Productions used to write a Cerebral Palsy Awareness post on our google plus page until google plus shut down entirely. Check out my other guest posts for Michael on our official website press page http://cripvideoproductions.com/press.php along with other guest posts. There is more awareness spreading of the connection between Stroke and Cerebral Palsy.

In other news Crip Video Productions was featured on Julesworks again here https://youtu.be/VVvungDudHA starting at 1 hr 25 minutes into the stream. Crip Video Productions will be part of another Julesworks Follies Live Stream on Saturday March 27th 2021 5:00pm MST. Margot Cole was interviewed by Stephen Jules Rubin about Crip Video Productions and Teatro Paraguas https://www.teatroparaguasnm.org  and is in another video with a friend who wrote a song in the live stream here  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6QxXNfpXmwI  EDIT: Here's the replay of the stream, Margot Cole on the stream https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYf7G51vp4w at 1:38:52 1:41:00 and 2:14:00 .Enjoy! We also received this lovely message below:

I just watched the film for the first time and wanted to tell you how much I appreciate what you accomplished. It’s a beautiful, beautiful film. I don’t know whether it’s about disabilities as much as it’s about love, because that so shines from every one of the actors it’s almost palpable. As serious as the subject matter is I had to smile through most of it. It’s brilliant the way you made humanity shine even while pointing out human flaws, as though no matter how badly we may sometimes feel or sometimes behave, every minute we have the potential to, as you subtly point out, speak to God as to a friend. Maybe I should have watched it a second time before trying to say something articulate, this is just a gut reaction.

Thank you so much for taking the time to give me the link!

I can’t wait to see what you do next!

Disability Advocacy Talk Part 2

 Disability Advocacy talk Part 2:

Today(February 4th 2021) we had a "part 2" to another online video call presentation myself and my Crip Video Productions cast members gave in November 2020. We talked about Cerebral Palsy, blindness, autism and eye surgeries. I(Margot) mentioned that Cerebral Palsy is caused by stroke and that it is actually easier for a baby to have a stroke than an adult(according to "Cerebral Palsy Foundation"). We got questions from people in the UK(England) about educating on disability issues. We had a discussion of adapted martial arts, adapted yoga(called chair yoga apparently), and adapted dance for those with physical disability. We discussed therapeutic Neuroplasticity involved in martial arts and dance for people with neurologic conditions. A woman with a physical disability in the audience spoke a lot about her personal experience. Many audience members mentioned bad experiences with inaccessible public transit. A cast member who is able bodied talked about her experience needing accommodations for a temporary condition and how it helped her empathize more with people with disabilities. Some audience members wanted us to do more presentations. At the end we received feedback that people saw the humanity of the disabled community through us.

Michael Lettman talked about his youtube channel, blog and autism advocacy project and how I started writing a series of guest blog posts for him during the presentation. https://masterml9502.wixsite.com/livingwithautism/post/disability-in-the-media-guest-post-by-margot  I will continue to guest post for Michael Lettman.

Special thanks to all of the panelists and attendees! We have full permission from everyone involved to write this blog post!

On Friday, December 18, 2020, Teatro Paraguas will present A Musical Piñata for Christmas VIII, an annual community celebration for the Holidays.  This virtual offering features a short play by Alix Hudson and Paola vengoechea Martini, entitled Home for the Holidays: Con Amor y Gozo, which will be live on Zoom.  Afterwards the audience is invited to join us for a virtual gathering.

The play will be posted afterwards on xerb.tv with videos of short scenes and carols and holiday music by the Teatro Paraguas Orchestra from previous community celebrations.

Alix Hudson & Paola Vengoechea-Martini's short play, Home for the Holidays: Con Amor y Gozo, is a Spanglish romp of Advent (and Chanukah) 2020. In Home for the Holidays, the 20 actors of all ages from our Paraguas family are also a literal family -- desperately trying to cobble together a "normal" Christmas for the family matriarch, Mama JoJo (JoJo Sena de Tarnoff). But group Christmas preparations on Zoom don't prove easy in the midst of the pandemic. Mama JoJo's daughters (Cristina Vigil, Juliet Salazar, Jeni Tincher, Alix Hudson, Sharla Stearn, Julia Gay, Paola Vengoechea-Martini) each take different approaches coping with the stress, from remedios to music to micromanagement, and Tio Padre Froggy (Rudy Fernandez) worries about composing his famous Misa del Gallo homily. While the teenagers (Luca Martini, Shaunti Sitonik, Amaya Smith) are more than okay with the lax oversight, their little primos (Logan Gay, Josephine Tincher, Emilia Martini) worry about the rest of the family. Eclectic Uncles (Stephen Jules Rubin, Argos MacCallum) remind us of our Musical Piñata for Christmas tradition, now in its 8th year. And observing this locura are the New York cousins, who have no excuse not to attend the family Christmas in its online format. The NY primos are played by New York City-based Crip Video Productions   http://cripvideoproductions.com  company members from "A Stroke Of Endurance" http://cripvideoproductions.com/astrokeofendurance.php  Margot Cole, John Diodato, and Izabela Ginda. Will the familia pull off the perfect rendition of Mama JoJo's favorite carol, "Vamos Todos a Belén," despite the odds?? Join us at 9pm NYC time, 7pm Mountain Time, on December 18th -- on Zoom! -- to find out.

Comics and feedback

Mark Pauling, an actor from our film “A Stroke Of Endurance”  who plays a college student in Ava’s class in the film, is selling some awesome comic books on Ebay here https://www.ebay.com/usr/calamity_collectables Please check it out! Please note!: Crip Video Productions does NOT receive any monetary gain from the sale of the comics! Please contact them through Ebay for help if needed, NOT Crip Video Productions.
We got more feedback on our online video calls from viewers saying they felt empowered by the presentations. The viewers said they now have a more positive view of disability and did not realize Cerebral Palsy came with a very sensitive startle reflex. Some viewers said they had never met anyone with the spastic diplegia type of Cerebral Palsy before meeting us.
It’s also “Stroke Awareness Month” for our fans with strokes in May. Please share “A Stroke Of Endurance” with stroke survivors this month.

Adapting due to COVID19-Live video presentations

We are writing to you, our international fans from social distancing and hope that our fans, especially fans who are high risk and have disabilities are staying healthy.

"A Stroke Of Endurance" has 21 likes on youtube as this post! I heard from a new film fan via email that she found my film "A Stroke Of Endurance" to be a "soothing comfort" to her in isolation during coronavirus.

Crip Video Productions had multiple in person screenings planned for Spring 2020 including a continuation of the creation of the media project “Students Talk” with Professor Mary Lynn Navarro. Unfortunately: Due to the virus any in-person Crip Video Productions projects and screenings are cancelled and/or delayed until further notice, but I'm doing presentations via video call and made a series of pre made, pre recorded totally private videos throughout April 2020. I had to learn new video call softwares. On Tuesday May 12 2020, we did a 1hr and 15 minute long private live stream video call for a few college classes. Myself and my actors, Tim Snoha, Daniel Lirano, and John Diodato presented. We had about 45 people on the video call. We discussed the films "Only Those Who Limp Allowed", "Crips Not Creeps" and "A Stroke Of Endurance". We discussed coronavirus and the effects of the virus on the disability community. We answered questions related to general disability issues and specific coronavirus issues that the disability community faces. The people who joined the live video included some fans from previous screenings. One person from a pervious screening shared a funny story in which a fire drill occurred during the middle of my talk at a previous screening. My actor Tim Snoha gave a beautiful, very poetic description of what Cerebral Palsy is. Daniel Lirano gave examples of the different types of Cerebral Palsy. John Diodato talked about blindness. One student expressed to us that she was sadly grieving the death of a relative due to COVID19 which led to a discussion of suicide and mental health. Another student expressed that after meeting us she felt she needed disability accommodations in school. Many students said we inspired them. Many students enjoyed how self confident myself and my actors were. Many people on the call enjoyed having a connection to other human beings during the pandemic albeit via a computer screen because they missed being around people. One person who worked in the school system asked how we as a society could improve education for disabled students. An able bodied person commented that hearing our experiences as actual disabled people helped her have a more inside view of disability.

Even after the presentation I received even more questions via email about therapies for Cerebral Palsy, disability discrimination, and plans for future films.

This blog post is posted with full permission from everyone involved. Thank you so much to every single person who joined the video call!

3 Presentations in one Big Day

On January 27th 2020,  I did 3 presentations about Crip Video Productions films with members of my cast. John Diodato and I did the first regular presentation together where we discussed Cerebral Palsy, IEPs, the Moro Reflex as it relates to Cerebral Palsy, and diabetes. One student asked how large my fanbase was. I told her about my various fans from India, The Netherlands, Canada, Italy and Ghana Africa. One person asked why some people with disabilities may be offended if they are called inspiring so I tried my best to explain “Inspiration P#rn” as a term and the difference between good and bad forms of inspiration.  One disabled student said he loved acting and was kind enough to offer his services to Crip Video Productions future projects.

This disabled student ended up coming with us to film the first of 2 video recorded presentations for the TV show created by Professor Mary Lynn Navarro of Kingsborough Community College titled “Students TALK”. https://cripvideoproductions.tumblr.com/post/189108164086/video-interview https://cripvideoproductions.tumblr.com/post/189483544466/video-interview-2
Tim Snoha, John Diodato, Izabela Ginda, Betty Lewin and myself from “A Stroke Of Endurance” participated as well as Daniel Liriano from the films “Only Those Who Limp Allowed” and “Crips Not Creeps”. It was so nice to have my actors input. We had a mix of my disabled and able bodied performers presenting together in a panel with a documentary like style. Many of the questions were either disability or media related like what movies we liked, and how we met each other. Some of the actors talked about how they originally found my casting calls for my films on this blog. Tim Snoha mentioned “Inclusion In The Arts” which has since been disbanded and shut down unfortunately.

During the second of the video recorded presentations for “Students Talk” we got into a more serious discussion of instances where my actors had been discriminated against for being disabled, instances where my able bodied performers saw disabled people they knew having their privacy violated, and what each performer thought of terms like “Differently Abled” and “Disabled”. Some of the answers surprised me, I learned a lot of good new things, and I was reminded how wonderful it was to work with these individuals! Some of the student audience shared their own disability related experiences and  really connected well with us.

Super special thanks to Mary Lynn Navarro, Tim Snoha, John Diodato, Izabela Ginda, Betty Lewin, and Daniel Liriano as well as everyone else involved in all the presenations for such a fabulous experience!

See our tumblr page to view photos from that day.

Please note: "Students Talk" has NOT been released yet. "Students TALK" is NOT owned by Crip Video Productions!

In other news we heard from a new fan who loved "Crips Not Creeps" and likened "Crips Not Creeps" to Martin Scorsese films because of the tracking city shots. We also heard from a fan who is a computer science teacher who was very impressed with all 4 films! We have a few more screenings planned for November 2019.

"A Stroke Of Endurance" featured on Stroke Survivor Blog

We are taking a break from posting our 2018 archives to share some exciting current news from our google plus page and email list that was released around January 15th 2019.

https://www.stromies.com/blog/guest-blog-margot-of-stroke-of-endurance

A fan of our film “A Stroke Of Endurance” http://cripvideoproductions.com/astrokeofendurance.php who is a stroke survivor, recommended a podcast about The Stromies https://strokecast.com/2018/12/21/episode-045-meet-the-stromies/ and the The Stromies Blog to Crip Video Productions. Then The Stromies kindly allowed our director Margot Cole to do a post about “A Stroke Of Endurance” for their blog about how the film specifically relates to stroke survivors. New Mexico 2018 screening press release

This post is an archive from Spring 2018.

“A Stroke Of Endurance” New Mexico screening press release!

PRESS RELEASE PRESS RELEASE PRESS RELEASE PRESS RELEASE
An Unusual Cinematic Treat
In a place that touts itself as “The City Different,” Santa Fe plays host to countless artistic efforts that feature truly innovative and unique forms of expression. It would seem then, that in a city such as this, patrons of the arts would not easily be surprised by any sort of artistic offering. Yet, creativity comes in many forms and even folks who think they’ve seen it all, can still be delighted and astonished from time to time. And it just so happens that March 24th and 25th will present an opportunity for just that to occur.
In collaboration with Teatro Paraguas, Crip Video Productions will be presenting screenings of “A Stroke of Endurance” a film about friendship, faith, and endurance. The story, written and directed by filmmaker, Margot Cole, is about how a college student with Cerebral Palsy and her classmates must deal with varying forms of fall-out when mid-semester, their professor has a stroke that leaves him disabled.
Among the extraordinary and unexpected aspects of this film is that the film, like all of Crip Video productions, was created by people with disabilities. The mission of the production company is, “…to break barriers and increase understanding of disability through engaging characters and storytelling.” Born with mild Cerebral Palsy herself, Cole has made it her mission to empower people with disabilities through her filmmaking. By naming her production company Crip Video Productions, Cole is using the vernacular of the disabled community to further identify the focus of her works. Other productions the company has engaged in include, “Drama Sighted”, “Only Those Who Limp Allowed” and “Crips Not Creeps.”
What reviewers are saying: “Russian Embedded dolls where layers of representation keep appearing-that is what resonates in this complex and provocative film “A Stroke Of Endurance” -Geraldine Pauling Film Psychohistorian NYC.
“A Stroke of Endurance” can be seen Saturday March 24th at 7:00pm. & Sunday March 25th at 2:00pm at Teatro Paraguas, 3205 Calle Marie suite A, Santa Fe New Mexico. There is no fee to attend the screenings but donations are encouraged and accepted to help Teatro Paraguas continue with their mission.
