Spring 2026 Screenings and Stroke Awareness Month
On April 2 2026 I(Margot) did a screening for some students of “Drama Sighted” where we discussed the mental health affects of ableist bullying and how it traumatizes those who are the disabled targets of the bullying. One student liked how the visuals of the film looked on a computer screen. On April 20th 2026 I(Margot) did a screening for some students with intellectual disabilities of “Drama Sighted”, the students got the humor in the film immediately and said they wished they could act in films in the same way. On April 23 2026 I spoke to a group of students who are learning to be teachers in special education. We discussed the dangers of ableism like when one disabled activist was not able to use an accessible toilet and it damaged her bladder and another news story about a woman who used a ventilator who died due to the apartment management not allowing her to install a backup generator. One student asked why a disabled man in a grocery store didn’t seem too happy when she let him cut the cashier line, and I explained it is better to ask a disabled person first so the person does not feel pity or like they are “getting special treatment.” On April 29th 2026 I screened “A Stroke Of Endurance” for another small class and the students said the movie touched their hearts. One student gained a new understanding of why disclosing a disability can be personal and private. One of the instructors loved the empathy between Professor Ben and the students and how the script humanized professors and students, and how the students didn’t want the professor to die. Someone else thought Ava called her mother at the end because she realized things are finite and we have to tell those we love that we love them. Another instructor liked how Ava and Professor Ben explained their brains and neurologic burn out. One person found the faith elements of the film interesting.
May is Stroke Awareness Month, and at Crip Video Productions, we are continuing our tradition of raising awareness and celebrating the resilience of the stroke survivor community!
Stroke is a far more common disability than many realize, affecting people of all ages. We want to use this month to highlight some critical facts:
Pediatric Stroke: Stroke in babies is a known cause of Cerebral Palsy (CP).Young Adult Risks: Strokes in younger people can be caused by complications from birth control, diabetes, or specific nutritional gaps due to genetic and autoimmune issues, such as Vitamin B deficiency anemia known as pernicious anemia.
Authenticity is the heartbeat of our work. We are eternally grateful to the stroke survivor who sat down with us for a personal interview on the phone in 2016, to help us accurately portray Professor Ben’s character, his symptoms, and his stroke recovery process. Her insight, along with the incredible support from our fans like the folks at "The Great Now What" , Stromies, and The StrokeCast, and the rest of the survivor community like the person who inspired me to write the film in the first place, who have championed "A Stroke of Endurance" since day one, is what makes this film special.
We hope our film continues to serve as a meaningful resource for survivors and their loved ones everywhere.

In other news we heard from a new fan who loved "Crips Not Creeps" and likened "Crips Not Creeps" to Martin Scorsese films because of the tracking city shots. We also heard from a fan who is a computer science teacher who was very impressed with all 4 films! We have a few more screenings planned for November 2019.

Blog list and Spring 2019 screenings
This April 2019 our films have been used for educational purposes. Crip Video Productions has been screening the films and speaking to various different types of college classes in different locations to teach about disability, bullying prevention, Cerebral Palsy, and IEPs. We even received fan letters from some of these classes. Our actors attended a Q&A for one of these screenings of "Only Those Who Limp Allowed". Some of the audience had the misconception that Cerebral Palsy is genetic. Cerebral Palsy is not genetic. Other members of the audience were amazed and impressed by Professor Ben's openness about his stroke in "A Stroke Of Endurance".
If you want to use our films as a teaching tool please, please contact us via email.
Recently a fan messaged us digitally to let us know that our film "A Stroke Of Endurance" was the first time they had heard of the connection and similarities between Cerebral Palsy and Stroke. We are thrilled to raise awareness. May 2019 is "Stroke Awareness Month" in the United States. Please become aware of the symptoms and risk factors for stroke and try to support people who have had strokes. Please, please share our film "A Stroke Of Endurance" for Stroke Awareness Month here http://cripvideoproductions.com/astrokeofendurance.php
A woman who shared our Tumblr blog on a list of blogs has re-shared that blog list here https://sarahkperkins.wordpress.com/2019/03/12/cerebral-palsy-blogs/
As you can see Google Plus is gone now so please use this blog as you would have used our old Google Plus page.

Most importantly. Please note: Our Crip Video Productions google plus page https://plus.google.com/103662816758572885430 is apparently going to be shut down in April 2019 because Google Plus will no longer exist as of April 2019. “A Stroke is no joke. It is very spontaneous. Many people could use help during a stroke but do not receive it due to lack of awareness. We can all help each other. All it could take to save a life is one word. Awareness.”

John Diodato.
One of our actors John Diodato who has a disability and played one of the student characters in “A Stroke Of Endurance” wrote this poem for World Stroke Day 2018. John Diodato wrote another poem in honor of “A Stroke Of Endurance” here http://cripvideoproductions.tumblr.com/post/175015670351/a-stroke-of-endurance-it-doesnt-matter-where
Today October 29th 2018 is World Stroke Day 2018. In appreciation of the stroke survivors who have inspired us such as one stroke survivor who allowed us to interview her personally to ad to the authenticity of Professor Ben’s character, symptoms and recovery process, and other survivors who supported our film “A Stroke Of Endurance” from the very beginning of its creation, Crip Video Productions would like to now be a part of World Stroke Day! If you are reading this: Please learn the signs of having a stroke, including the more subtle lessor known symptoms of stroke, so severe brain damage can be prevented, especially because people do die from stroke. Please be aware that a stroke can happen at any age. Please be aware that a stroke that occurs in the womb or early infancy or early childhood is often diagnosed as “Cerebral Palsy”. In the cases where a person has already had a stroke please be a true friend to stroke survivors you know by supporting them in getting the therapy, and disability accommodations they need to readjust to post stroke life. Treat them like a human being. Listen to them. Have empathy for them, not just sympathy. If you are reading this and have already had a stroke, perhaps most importantly, please know that your life matters! Life can be full and beautiful post-stroke. You can indeed live happily post-stroke. Your opinions matter. There are people on this earth who want you here, and want to help you if you want help.
To watch “A Stroke Of Endurance” for free with open captions and audio description, and share it with other stroke survivors and their loved ones for World Stroke Day see here http://cripvideoproductions.com/astrokeofendurance.php
Or simply scroll down on this blog. We hope “A Stroke Of Endurance” can become a great resource for all people effected by Stroke.
KCC Diversity Festival October 2018
Today(October 23 2018) I was invited back to the Kingsborough Diversity Film Festival for the 2nd time this year to screen “A Stroke Of Endurance” I screened “A Stroke Of Endurance” for the Spring 2018 Diversity Festival in May 2018 http://cripvideoproductions.tumblr.com/post/173972696631/kcc-diversity-festival-2018 I have been a part of the Diversity Film Festival ever since it was conceived of in 2015 http://cripvideoproductions.tumblr.com/post/132124383646/kcc-diversity-film-festival and it is always an honor to be invited.
We got the incredible opportunity to screen the film twice back to back today for about 20 or so people each time! The decision to show the film twice was a last minute surprise that was not originally planned. This marks the first time Crip Video Productions has had 2 screenings on a single day! I was thrilled to be able to share the film with so many people! I introduced the film twice saying that the film was semi autobiographical, roughly based on a true story, and that I wrote it because I wanted to show the value of the lives of disabled people and show a disabled female character who grows from her mistakes and experiences. I told them I was glad this festival included both Disability and women’s issues as part of Diversity. Disability is truly the largest minority.
My actors and I got to do a small Q&A after each showing. One of my actors said my style of directing made it easier for them to make the character they were playing believable. One of the audience members said they never realized the similarity between Cerebral Palsy and Stroke until seeing the film. I told them that physiologically Cerebral Palsy and Stroke are almost the same(lack of oxygen to the brain) and I hoped that people with Cerebral Palsy and Stroke Survivors would work together more on issues related to brain injury and treatments like physical therapy. One audience member asked how I did auditions and we talked about how disabled actors need more opportunities to make media representative of the disabled community through their portrayals. We talked about how some newly disabled people like Stroke Survivors sometimes unfortunately become socially isolated because of lack of accessibility. We talked about a disability not always being outwardly visible. Some of the audience members were physical health and recreational therapy students and told me and the cast that they had not thought of disability much before so the film screening was timely for them. One student said he wanted to do research on disability and I told them to talk to disabled people as part of their research.
I have full permission from Kingsborough Community College to write this post! Special thanks to KCC!

“Drama Sighted” audio described by Tucker Salovaara
Film Synopsis: A teenage boy with Spastic Diplegia Cerebral Palsy named Brandon learns first impressions can be deceiving when he meets a drama teacher with Juvenile Macular Degeneration(a rare form of blindness)
This film is audio described for blind viewers and open captioned for deaf viewers. The characters in the film who are disabled are portrayed by actors who are disabled in real life. We were advised by someone who has Juvenile Macular Degeneration in real life when making the special effects. The special effects are based solely on this persons’ description of their disability. “Drama Sighted” was originally a one-act play that was performed at BrooklynOne Theater’s “A Playwright Grows In Brooklyn” youth playwriting contest in 2009. “A Playwright Grows in Brooklyn” was a short one act play writing contest for teens created by artistic directors Thomas Kane (who unfortunately passed away) and Anthony Marino of BrooklynOne Theater. Then it was turned into a short film. If you watch the film on Youtube you will see a logo saying “DISLABELEDtv Productions”. DISLABELEDtv was a media organization for and by people with disabilities. All the members had some sort of disability. Their original goal was to make a TV series and other short video projects centered around disability. “Drama Sighted” was one of these projects. Since “Drama Sighted” was a collaboration you may notice some slight style differences from other Crip Video Productions films. In 2012 DISLABELEDtv became “DISLABELED Film Series” http://dislabeledfilm.wordpress.com https://www.facebook.com/DislabeledPhilly which is modeled after the screening series disTHIS. https://www.facebook.com/disthis Once DISLABELED decided that they would no longer be making videos I had to branch out on my own with my own name “Crip Video Productions” “Drama Sighted” is the sole property of Margot Cole/Crip Video Productions.

A fan of our film “A Stroke Of Endurance” http://cripvideoproductions.com/astrokeofendurance.php who is a stroke survivor, recommended a podcast about The Stromies https://strokecast.com/2018/12/21/episode-045-meet-the-stromies/ and the The Stromies Blog to Crip Video Productions. Then The Stromies kindly allowed our director Margot Cole to do a post about “A Stroke Of Endurance” for their blog about how the film specifically relates to stroke survivors. Super Special thanks to the wonderful ladies at The Stromies!

"A Stroke Of Endurance" review/Synopsis archive
This is an archived post from September 2017 from when we were still in the editing process with "A Stroke Of Endurance" but we did not post the review to our official website until after "A Stroke Of Endurance" was uploaded to youtube. To avoid major spoilers please watch "A Stroke Of Endurance" online for free before reading this post!
Russian embedded dolls where layers of representation keep appearing-that is what resonates in this complex and provocative film "A Stroke Of Endurance" written and directed by Margot Cole, which provides a window into the disability experience and the thoughts and attitudes of ableism. Margot Cole reveals herself to be a multi faceted artist (observing of life, writer, actor, and director).
In this her latest production released on Youtube, a group of college students, some with disabilities, some without-learn their professor has suffered a devastating stroke, leaving them temporarily unmoored.
Ms. Cole also acts in the film as the central character Ava, in a flashback scene of her encounter with a college counselor who is clueless about her. Feeling offended by the counselor's rude and condensing attitude and the counselor's insistence that because Ava is physically disabled, she should major in disability studies, Ava indignantly departs the counselling session.
We next view Ava lamenting over Professor Ben's stroke. She believes it was possibly a result of her silently cursing him, and wishing him dead, because of her dismay over the high cost of a textbook, that Professor Ben had explained, was for required reading. Following the professor's return to the classroom, his students observe him struggling with a difficult recovery. Classmate Alice suggests that Ava might help Professor Ben manage the disabling effects of his stroke by sharing her experience of living with a disability. Alice explains that it "doesn't overcome your life" and in fact one "can actually thrive in spite of a handicap". Ms. Cole imbues her theatre of life with karmic restitution as Professor Ben gratefully accepts Ava's help. Their disabilities inform their relationship showing how endurance and coping with challenges, foster strength.
Ms. Cole presents to her viewers, through a lens of subjective experiences, the broad spectrum of abilities and disabilities both in herself and in others. Her graceful beauty enhances the dynamic and powerful insights in this film. - Geraldine Pauling (disabled psychologist) NYC 9/09/17

“A Stroke of Endurance” screening premiere!
This post may contain spoilers for “A Stroke Of Endurance”. Please see our previous post to watch the film first!
Today(December 5th) was the public premiere screening of our newest film “A Stroke Of Endurance” at KCC. (This screening is why the film had to be released early with the captioned version to come later) There was a pre screening pizza party and performance about disability. Then we moved into a room with a projector and watched the film. I (Margot) introduced the film as I usually do at Crip Video Productions screenings. I mentioned how the film was shot at KCC. It was nice to see the audience reactions. At the end of the screening we had a special Q&A panel with most of the cast of the film, like most of the student characters and the actor who plays Professor Ben. I was glad that the cast got to share what they liked and remembered about our shooting and production process.
One of the cast members Tim Snoha, who plays Professor Ben mentioned how I found him through Alliance for Inclusion in the Arts which has listings of disabled actors. One audience member asked how I thought of the story of the film. I told them that I had really known a professor who had a stroke but that a lot of other elements were fictionalized to give the characters better character arcs. One person asked how long it took to write the film. I told them most of the events which inspired the story occurred in November 2015,I started writing in early 2016, and the script was ready for shooting in February 2017. One audience member asked who did and didn’t have acting experience. One person asked if we thought connections between students and professors are important.
One person asked about the dizzy spell scene and one cast member mentioned his experience as an EMT. I told them I based aspects of that dizzy spell scene on what another woman with a stroke described about her stroke and that getting on the floor like in the scene seems to be the general recommendation for vertigo. I told them I had heard from a fan who had a stroke who said the film helped her a lot and that she felt the symptoms were accurate. The cast said they enjoyed being part of the project and may want to be part of new projects which thrills me.
All in all the audience seemed to love the film and were very engaged so we can’t wait to do this again! Special thanks to Kingsborough Community College and Students Unlimited club for letting us screen the film! Special thanks to the cast and crew! We have permission from KCC to write this blog post!
